Bowen

What is Bowen?

This unique form of therapy involves neuromuscular re-patterning. It works primarily through the nervous system on both structural and energetic levels. The technique is gentle and non-invasive, and can be performed through clothing.

The Bowen Technique is a completely new concept in bodywork. It is neither derived from nor similar to any other physical modality:

How does it work?

The Bowen Technique is a specific series of muscle and connective tissue movements designed to treat a wide range of problems and injuries.

It addresses every system in the body, internal organ systems as well as the musculoskeletal structure. These gentle, powerful moves send neurological impulses to the brain, which then is given time to process and feed impulses back to realign the body.

Respecting this feedback loop is essential for allowing the body to restore its own natural balance.

Benefits are usually apparent within two sessions, even when long-standing conditions are being treated. Bowen results are long lasting and profound.

What happens after a treatment?

Your body will continue to integrate the Bowen messages over the following five days.

Keep in mind that the Bowen technique is a subtle gentle reminder to your body to relax, through messages to the brain. Messages from other treatments will “erase” the Bowen message. This is similar to the writing on a blackboard, which can be wiped away with a chalkboard eraser.

For this reason, it is important to avoid all other forms of bodywork while you are receiving Bowen treatments, as they will interfere with the subtle Bowen nerve impulses.

Who can benefit from Bowen?

Bowen therapy is completely safe and appropriate for everyone from the highly trained athlete to newborns, pregnant woman, elderly and the chronically ill.

Bowen has been successful in treating musculoskeletal problems such as back and neck pains, scoliosis, sporting injuries, TMJ alignment and carpal tunnel syndrome.

It is also renowned for its effectiveness with internal conditions such as migraines, digestive and elimination complaints, colic in babies and respiratory problems – including asthma.

Bowen can help:

Musculoskeletal pain

Digestive disorders

Gynecological problems
